When someone signs up for your newsletter via your sign-up form, you might expect to see that contact immediately marked as “inactive” in your recipient list until they click the confirmation link.
However, when using our new forms (beta), it is completely normal for these contacts to initially not appear in your list — not even with the “Inactive” status.
What has changed?
- Old forms: With our older forms, contacts were added to your recipient group with the status “Inactive” immediately after the form was submitted. Only after clicking the double opt-in link (DOI) did the status change to “Active.”
- New forms (beta): Recipients are only added to the list once they have successfully confirmed the double opt-in. As long as the link in the confirmation email has not been clicked, the contact is invisible in your recipient overview.
Filtering by “Inactive” therefore displays the value “0” for these contacts.
Why was this changed? (The benefits)
- Better data protection (GDPR):
Contacts who have not yet provided final proof of their consent are not stored in your main database in the first place. - Protection against spam sign-ups: If bots bombard your form with fictitious or third-party email addresses, your recipient list remains clean. Your account won’t be flooded with unconfirmed “dead leads.”
- Less administrative work: You no longer have to manually delete unconfirmed, inactive contacts after a certain period of time to keep your list clean.
